Improving Health and Well-Being for Vulnerable Communities

Access to quality healthcare is essential for building healthy, resilient, and productive communities. Across Somalia, many families continue to face challenges in accessing basic health services due to poverty, displacement, limited infrastructure, and recurring humanitarian crises.

Somali Welfare Society (SWS) works to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable populations by supporting access to essential healthcare services, strengthening community health systems, promoting health awareness, and improving health outcomes for women, children, and underserved communities.

Since its establishment in 1993, SWS has implemented health-related initiatives that contribute to healthier communities and improved quality of life.

Our Health Program

The SWS Health Program seeks to improve access to essential healthcare services while promoting preventive health practices and community-based health solutions.

The program focuses on strengthening health systems, increasing health awareness, supporting maternal and child health services, responding to health emergencies, and improving community resilience against disease outbreaks and public health challenges.

Key Areas of Intervention

Primary Healthcare Support

SWS supports efforts to improve access to basic healthcare services for communities that face barriers to healthcare access. This includes supporting health facilities, outreach services, and community-based healthcare initiatives.

Maternal and Child Health

Women and children are often among the most vulnerable populations during health emergencies and periods of instability. SWS supports programs that improve maternal health, child health, nutrition awareness, and access to essential healthcare services.

Community Health Education

Health awareness is critical for disease prevention and healthy lifestyles. SWS conducts community education and awareness activities that promote hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, maternal care, and healthy living practices.

Disease Prevention and Health Promotion

The organization supports initiatives that help communities prevent communicable diseases and respond effectively to public health challenges through awareness campaigns, prevention strategies, and community engagement.

Emergency Health Response

During emergencies, droughts, floods, displacement, and disease outbreaks, SWS works with partners and communities to support emergency health interventions that address urgent healthcare needs.

Health Facility Support

SWS contributes to strengthening healthcare delivery by supporting health facilities, medical equipment, health outreach activities, and community health services whenever resources and partnerships allow.
